How to correctly insert contact lenses?
Hygiene is the most important factor for the health of your eyes. Before any contact with the lenses and/or the eyes you should always wash your hands thoroughly with odourless, antibacterial soap (preferably in liquid form) and then dry them with a towel. Please remember that cleanliness is the first and most important aspect of the proper handling of contact lenses. Inserting a contact lens requires practice and patience at first.
Before inserting the contact lens on the eye, you should make sure that it isn't turned inside out.
A lens that is placed in the eye inside out may cause discomfort or decrease visual acuity. There are three methods to help you assess the proper position of the lens. During first use, we recommend inserting contact lenses under the supervision of a specialist or an experienced person. Inserting and removing contact lenses can be problematic at first, but over time it will become easy.
Method No. 1
Place the lens on the fingertip of the index finger and check its shape:
✔️ if the edge of the lens is in the shape of a mixing bowl, it is on the right side,
✔️ if the edge of the lens is turned outwards, this means that the lens turned inside out. Method No. 2. Place the lens on the fingertip of the index finger, look against a source of light and find the inscription engraved on the edge of the lens:
✔️ if the lens is on the right side, then looking from the outside, the manufacturer's inscription should be visible on its edge (if the lens has a right side marker),
✔️ if the lens is turned inside out, the inscription will also be inverted. You should then gently turn it to the other side in your fingers. Method No. 3 Place the lens between your thumb and forefinger and try to bend it:
✔️ if the edges of the lens wrap to the inside, the lens is on the right side,
✔️ if the edges of the lens roll outwards, it must be turned to the other side.
If the lens is on the right side, you can insert it with confidence. In order to insert the contact lenses, do the following:
1. Place the lens on the fingertip of the index finger of the right (or left) hand. Remember – the finger should be completely dry, otherwise the lens will stick to it and you will have a problem with placing it on the eye.
2. Place the middle finger of the same hand near the lower eyelashes and pull down the lower eyelid.
3. Pull back and hold the upper eyelid with the fingers of the other hand.
4. Apply the lens directly on the eye (the cornea), gently pulling the index finger away.
5. Look down, look up, and to the sides and release the lower eyelid, and then the upper eyelid.
6. Blink gently in order for the lens to position itself centrally on the eye.
7. If the lens does not cause discomfort and provides vision, it has been inserted correctly.
8. If the lens causes discomfort, please remove it, rinse with the contact lens care solution and insert it again. Taking care of your lenses is very important!
9. Follow the same steps for the other lens.
How do I remove contact lenses?
1. Wash, rinse and dry your hands and prepare the lens container.
2. Pull down the lower eyelid with the middle finger of the right (or left) hand.
3. Look up without raising your head.
4. While looking up, place the fingertip of the index finger of the same hand against the lower edge of the lens and slide it down onto the lower white part of the eye.
5. Keep looking up and gently grab the lens with your index finger and thumb.
6. Follow the same steps for the other eye.
